Commitment to Reflection of Growth
I haven’t always wanted to become a teacher. I had some pretty significant teachers in my life to make impressions but it wasn't until I met my husband that I found the passion for teaching. He is an elementary teacher and being able to see the teacher side of education changed my view. I love helping children, seeing them grasp concepts, and watching them grow with knowledge. Teachers have the ability to see when students have that “light bulb” moment, and those moments make everything worth it. WVSU’s teacher program has prepared me to be the best teacher I can be. I have been in placements with cooperating teachers that have provided me with positive and constructive feedback. All of these things have provided me with the strategies and theories that I will need to be the best teacher I can be.
The first artifact below is a list of the semesters that I have been on the dean's list while at West Virginia State University. The next artifact is the first lesson I taught in 316. It shows tremendous growth when placed with my last artifact. My last artifact is lesson I taught in 423. The standards and objectives show better alignment. I used a pretest and post test with the 423 lesson to make some data based decisions. The strategies and techniques I used also are better suited for the classroom. The growth I have made in the teacher preparation program is tremendous. The next artifact I have included is a reflection of my Teach Science experience. I spent several weeks teaching at a summer program at the Bob Burdette Center. The program put me in a very professional spot. I was the lead teacher of the group of students I taught. There were two other teachers that helped as well as a few adults that moved along with the group of 3rd-5th graders. I planned the lessons and implemented them. This experience gave me the drive to find the classroom management style that fit that group of students as well as differentiating their instruction.
The last two artifacts are snapshots of my grade point average. The first is my GPA at the end of my first semester at WVSU. The last is my current GPA. When these two are compared you can see the growth that I have made academically.
